My friends Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and their manager Zach were nice enough to hook me up with a plaque commemorating the sale of 500,000 albums and 5 million singles for the hit “Thrift Shop.” I am thrilled to receive such an honor from them! Why am I receiving this though you may ask? Well, as some of you may or may not know, I’ve been working with them since 2009 when Macklemore released his “Unplanned Mixtape” and not long after, him and Ryan Lewis released the “VS” EP. I mastered both of those projects, as well as the “VS Redux” that was released later in 2010. I consulted with Ryan on some of the mixing for “The Heist” and mastered all of their performance / show tracks. Mainly though, I was instrumental in linking them with Wanz, the “Nate Dogg-ish” brotha that’s singing the hook on “Thrift Shop” and I was also involved in the recording session. They explain it in the video above during their 2013 SXSW interview with Nardwuar.
Thanks again to Ben, Ryan and Zach for this plaque commemorating such a monumental occasion! I hear there’s a PLATINUM plaque right around the corner though…
